Calorify Completes Pre-Seed Financing to Revolutionize Metabolic Testing
Calorify, an innovative startup dedicated to transforming how individuals and healthcare professionals monitor metabolic health, is proud to announce the successful completion of a pre-seed funding round. The company raised this round to accelerate expansion into their target market of clinical trials, centered on new obesity and diabetes drugs such as GLP-1 medications in development.
Calorify offers doubly labeled water (DLW) metabolic testing in an at-home, accessible testing format, delivering detailed data on calorie expenditure, calorie intake, body composition, physical activity level and more.
The team at Calorify brings together decades of experience in metabolic research, stable isotope chemistry, and clinical trial management. With the new funding, Calorify is poised to lead the next wave of innovation in at-home testing and revolutionize how individuals and clinicians approach metabolic health monitoring.
“This is a major milestone for Calorify,” said Hari Mix, PhD, CEO and founder of Calorify. “We’re excited to bring our vision to life and democratize access to metabolic data. Our user-friendly, at-home test will allow individuals to better understand their bodies and help healthcare professionals deliver more personalized treatments for metabolic conditions.”
The pre-seed round was co-led by Seaside Ventures and LEAD, with participation from several additional funds and investors. The funds will be used to expand their business development team and prepare for lab expansion ahead of larger incoming pharmaceutical contracts.
“At LEAD, we’re thrilled to partner with Hari and the team at Calorify as they pioneer the use of doubly labeled water—widely regarded as the most accurate method for measuring metabolic activity. With the global rise in metabolic diseases, this innovation is arriving at a pivotal moment, transforming how clinical researchers, healthcare providers, and sports physicians monitor and manage energy expenditure. Hari’s deep technical expertise as a professor makes him uniquely equipped to bring this science-backed product to market. More importantly, his passion-driven leadership, relentless obsession with the problem, and adaptive learning mindset embody exactly what we seek in early-stage founders. We’re excited to support their mission to reshape how vital metabolic health insights are delivered and acted upon.”
“Calorify is at the forefront of a growing demand for personalized health solutions,” said Ryan Roddy, managing partner at Seaside Ventures. “Hari and team have built a meaningful advancement with Calorify in the metabolic health space for all stakeholders by adding reliable, cost friendly, and seamless data points to better understand energy expenditure.”
Metabolic health is a growing area of concern as diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular diseases become more prevalent worldwide. Traditional testing methods are often costly, inconvenient, and fail to provide actionable insights. Calorify aims to address these challenges by offering an accessible and user-friendly solution that brings precise metabolic data to the masses.
“Calorify is solving a major problem in preventive healthcare,” added Harrison Valner, founder and managing partner at Seaside Ventures. “What sets Calorify apart is their ability to deliver DLW technology—traditionally limited to specialized research—through an affordable, user-friendly platform. This breakthrough enables broader adoption and has the potential to democratize access to high-quality metabolic data, making it a valuable tool for optimizing health outcomes across diverse populations.”
