Traci Bethea, PhD, MPA, Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, USA
Dr Traci Bethea is an Assistant Professor of Oncology at Georgetown University Medical Center and a member of the Cancer Prevention and Control Program and the Office of Minority Health and Health Disparities Research at Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center. Dr Bethea’s research focuses on chemical and non-chemical stressors underlying health disparities affecting Black women with a particular focus on hormone-sensitive cancers. Most recently, Dr Bethea has studied exposure to non-persistent endocrine disrupting chemicals and sleep health among Black and Hispanic breast cancer survivors, area-level socioeconomic factors among women diagnosed with ovarian cancer, and area-level environmental, social, and economic factors among older breast cancer survivors.
Philippa Darbre, PhD, University of Reading, UK
Philippa Darbre is Professor Emeritus (Oncology) in the School of Biological Sciences, University of Reading, UK. Following graduation as a biochemist (BScHons University of Birmingham, PhD Cambridge University), and postdoctoral research at Oxford University, she became Head of the Cellular Endocrinology Laboratory at the Imperial Cancer Research Fund (now Cancer Research UK) where she established models for studying oestrogen/antioestrogen action in human breast cancer cells. In 1991, she moved to the University of Reading, establishing a research laboratory applying molecular techniques to the cell models and developing more pioneering work on environmental oestrogen-disrupting chemicals, especially those contained in personal care products. Her teaching has always been focused in the area of biochemistry, molecular cell biology, endocrinology and cancer, where she continues to contribute from retirement. She has served as Admissions Tutor for Biological Sciences, Programme Advisor for Biochemistry and Coordinator for numerous undergraduate modules. She has trained PhD students and has acted as external examiner for various PhD candidates and MRes programmes. She has contributed to international research ventures, has held editorial board positions for international scientific journals (currently now only Journal of Applied Toxicology) and has worked with environmental/cancer charities (currently only CancerActive, BreastCancer UK). She has published 148 peer-reviewed scientific research papers and five books. She is the editor of two recently published books entitled “Endocrine Disruption and Human Health” (Elsevier, 2022) and “Personal Care Products and Human Health” (Elsevier, 2023).
Ming-Chieh Li, LLM, PhD, National Taiwan Normal University, Taiwan Dr Ming-Chieh Li is an Associate Professor at National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU). Dr Li has held a visiting scholar position at Penn State University College of Medicine, as well as postdoctoral and visiting scholar roles at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. His research focuses on how environmental pollutants and nutritional factors interact to affect health outcomes, with broader interests in health policy and law. He currently serves as an editor for the Journal of the American Heart Association and was recognized as one of the World’s Top 2% Scientists in 2024.
